Last week, I decided to stop at the new and improved Uncle Teds restaurant, formerly known as Suzies. It is located on 163 Bleeker street by Washington Square Park. I stopped by last week and was surprised by the improvements.
I was able to catch their lunch special which was great. Restaurants typically give small portions of food for customers who come in for their specials, however this has never been the case at this restaurant. I decided to order an Americanized dish which consisted of chicken and broccoli with white rice. I also ordered a side of miso soup.
Chicken and broccoli with white rice.
I was not surprised when I saw the large portion that was served. The former Suzies was known for serving large portions, including their lunch specials. This has remained the same for Uncle Ted’s. A friend of mine who lives in the area mentioned that she eats at the restaurant frequently and apparently they serve larger portions during their dinner hours. Another thing that I have always noticed even while the restaurant was still running under “Suzies” is that the waiters are very attentive and the food has always been served quickly. I don’t think I have ever had to wait for more than 15 minutes for my food to be served. The food was delicious and the best part is that I got all this for $8 and some change!
Overall this place is fantastic for a lunch break or as a place to meet up with friends. The ambiance is very laid back and the waiters are very friendly, polite, and attentive. In my opinion, this place gets a 4 out of 5! I will definitely stop by again for lunch if I’m in the area 🙂
[Random note]:
While I was waiting for the food, I was actually practicing my Japanese writing. My waiter noticed, and he sparked a conversation with me about Japanese hiragana and katakana and mentioned that he had been studying Japanese as well. It was a nice moment being able to talk about a common interest with someone.
Stay Humble~
